Week 1
January 5-6
What are you looking forward to most about your internship experience?
- I’m mostly looking froward to building stuff. I’m really excited for that comes up. I’m also excited for designing stuff as well. Overall I’d say I’m looking forward mainly to my project.

Week 2
January 9-13
What is my project?
- My internship project is designing a café and then choosing two things from the café that I designed and then building that. It’s supposed to follow how Tecture work on their projects. First you sort of get a feel of the place you’re doing and then you go on to designing. After having a set design then you get to building. That’s the order that I’ll be following. I actually have a separate page explaining everything that I’ll ne doing in more detail.

What has surprised you most while working at your internship?
- I’d have to say that I’m surprised with how lax it is here. I guess I was expecting thing to be more strict like a job but it’s overall been really chill. I enjoy the calm atmosphere. Everyone is mainly working on their own stuff too so its sort of quiet despite the sounds of machines in the background.

Week 3
January 17-20
Your mentor interview will happen over the next couple weeks. What do you hope to learn about your mentor from that conversation?
- I hope to learn more about my mentor and why he chose to do a job like this. Maybe learn more about how he started Tecture and how it has been working here for him. I believe that hearing about all that will be interesting.

What are you thankful for in your internship experience?
- I’m thankful that this internship gives me a chance to explore what my dream job would be like. For example after a week of internship I have learned that I don’t really like the design part of architecture. I would much rather do hands on stuff rather than sit at a computer all day.
Week 4
January 23-27
What is going well with your project? What challenges are you facing?
- My 3d models look good. As of right now I am designing my light in Sketchup that I will later put together. I’d have to say I am facing some challenges with staying focused on one thing the entire day. It sort of feels like I have an office job, and I’m not the biggest fan of that. Staying at a computer all day has been making me antsy and I zone out a lot. Though I am very excited to start the fabrication process. I’m really excited to see how my light will turn out.

Final Week
January 30 - February 3
Describe what you are most thankful for in your internship experience—what experiences, what people, and so on? What new appreciations have you gained through internship and how did you develop these?
- I’d have to say I’m very thankful for the experience. I’m very glad I got to be here. Even though I didn’t enjoy the design process as much as I thought I would I’m glad I got to realize that. If not I would’ve gone into architecture when I got older and just then find out I don’t really enjoy it. I think I’ve gained a new appreciation to just everything that we have, now I know that everything we owned was designed by someone, someone put the time and effort into designing our phones, computers, tables, etc.. It’s really interesting to think about. The whole process of designing and making my light really opened my eyes to how thing work in the architecture business.

What advice would you give to a junior in high school who wants to pursue a career in the field of your internship?
- Going into architecture mainly just design, you’re going to be mainly on the computer. I’d suggest you get some good practice in on Sketchup or other 3d modeling websites. Get familiar with all the tools that architects use. Also architecture includes math, so make sure you keep that in mind as well.
