Zara: Where’d you go to college?
Kyle: I went to college at UCSB- Santa Barbara UC Santa Barbara
Zara: Oh, cool. What made you want to go there?
Kyle: So I grew up in Corona, um so I got into UCR, UC Davis, UC San Diego. Uh Santa Barbara was just far enough for my family but not too far away. It was a comfortable distance for me.
Zara: That’s pretty cool.
Kyle: And it was right on the beach and they had some good programs. I didn’t know what I wanted to do so I was like yeah.
Zara: That's pretty cool. Did you have like a dream college is that where you wanted to go? Or did you have like other colleges in mind?
Kyle: I didn’t, I was kind of rudderless. I always knew that I was prepping to go to college but didn’t really- at the time understand why. It was always just the unspoken- like- you’re going. It wasn’t even till I got out of undergrad- after I graduated was when I was like oh. I could’ve really utilized that a lot more if I like, um, if I understood why I was there. You know what I mean?
Zara: Yeah
Kyle: I think that was- yeah. Yeah that’s a deeper rant that I have
Zara: Laughs, Did you like know what you wanted to do during college? Like have like a vague idea?
Kyle:Vague. I went in as pre-bio ‘cause I was prepping to be a veterinarian, um, and then I derailed myself through like having fun. Uh, my eyes were opened to a much larger world. Uh- so I got sidetracked for a couple years. I ended up going from like pre-bio, to sociology, uh I ran through a different couple majors and then I ended in physical anthropology because I wanted to be an archeologist.Um then I went on a archeological dig after graduation and that was cool. Really interesting.
Zara: That's cool
Kyle: But I was like- well it was great for like a summer, but I was like man I can’t do this for the next 40 years or whatever, so I was like ok I think that's enough of archaeology for now.
Zara: So what made you wanna like do this? Like architecture or like design? What made you want to do like- a job like this?
Kyle: Uh after the archaeological dig I kind of freaked out and I moved to spain and taught english for a year and a half. Which was really cool.
Zara: That's cool
Kyle: It’s a great way to like learn spanish and, um, and use my english speaking to make some money.
Zara: Mhm
